Job Summary
The Crew Chief performs flight chief, crew chief, repair and reclamation, and maintenance support functions in support of the U.S. Department of State (DoS), Bureau for Diplomatic Security (DS), under oversight from the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office of Aviation (INL/A) in the Republic of Iraq
Principal Accountabilities
Services, troubleshoots and inspects aircraft structures, systems, components, and related systems
Coordinates maintenance plans and schedules to meet operational commitments
Supervises and assists in launching and recovering aircraft
Reviews maintenance data collection summaries to determine trends and production effectiveness
Performs crash recovery duties
Performs staff and supervisory management functions
Performs pre-flight checks and ensure aircraft meet flight safety standards
Ensure aircraft is maintained to flight safety standards
Ensure aircraft records are maintained and record all incidents noted in preflight inspection and during flight
Ensure that scheduled maintenance is performed on time
The employee may be assigned duties as Crew chief, and if qualified Flight Instructor/Standardization Instructor or other additional duties related to flight operations as required
FI/SI- Conduct academic and hands-on performance training and administer evaluations to ensure crewmember proficiency and standardization of training in addition to maintaining IATF’s and completing required AWIS entries
Perform aircraft maintenance as required
Perform other administrative task as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
An Airframe and Power (A&P) license, with turbine aircraft experience
Will be responsible for maintaining weapons qualification with the Glock 9, M4, M249 SAW and familiarization fire for the AK47
Must have a FAA A&P Certificate
Must complete and pass a FAA Class III Medical Examination
Certified military crew chief/gunner with experience and knowledge of helicopter mounted weapons systems and their employment in a high threat environment
Must possess a current US passport or the ability to obtain one before assignment
Possess, or ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance is a condition of continued employment; an active DoD Secret Security Clearance is preferred
Experience & Education
Two (2) years experience as a Crew Chief and Door Gunner in the U.S. military
Experience can be gained in the employment of any Federal, State, Local or commercial entities providing high threat protective services that require skills similar to those outlined in Attachment 1 to Appendix G, Section C (Training Curriculum) of the Base Contract.650 total rotary wing flight hours, and applicant must be Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and have 150 hours of NVG experience
FI/SI applicants require three (3) years experience as a non-rated or non-pilot crewmember instructor
Must have three 3 years experience in the maintenance and support of the following weapons: M-4, Glock 19, and M-249
CE with combat experience and previous exposure to operations in Afghanistan/Iraq is desired
Minimum three (3) years experience as a rotary wing aircraft mechanic
High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must possess and maintain a current, FAA Class III Medical Certificate
Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to three (3) hours per day and sit for up to five (5) hours per day
May be required to lift up to 30 lbs. to the height of 4 feet and be required to lift up to 20 lbs. to a height of 7 feet
Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs
On occasion must be able to lift up to 80 pounds
Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders
Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print
Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depths
Must be able to read and interpret hand and type written print instructions
Employee will be required to work and live in a potentially hostile environment, at remote locations, and under austere conditions
Will be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft
May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft
Travel : Travel to and between CONUS and OCONUS locations as requested is required
