Job Introduction:
The Communications Technician is accountable to the Communications Manager and is responsible for all technical matters regarding the communications equipment and systems currently in use to support FCO mission in Afghanistan.

The posts are split into regions FCO North based in BEK and FCO South based in LKG. The technicians will come under the operational command and control of the Communications Manager.

The role will be on a 9 weeks on and 3 weeks off rotation.

Role Responsibility:
Duties will include but not be limited to the following:
The technician will be required to travel to out stations and locations within the given AOR.
The technician will require strong 1st and 2nd line technical skills and be able to fault find and repair the following equipments:
VHF/UHF Motorola GM and GP radio systems including repeaters and antenna arrays masts and towers and associated software for making and amending profiles.
HF CODAN radio systems mobile, vehicle transceivers and ancillaries and associated software for making and amending profiles.
HF CODAN antenna arrays masts and towers.
Thuraya, Iridium and Thrane and Thrane satellite Telephone systems including vehicle and base station Installations.
TRACK 24 tracking equipment and ancillary equipments.
Allan Vanguard ECM equipments and ancillary equipments.
The technician must be able to install the above equipments into static, permanent and mobile platforms.
Take ownership of any technical issues and actively drive to satisfactory conclusion.
Consult with the manufacturers and local suppliers to resolve technical issues.
Work closely with the FCO Comms Manager and the FCO QM for all stores and accurate recording and up keep of stores ledgers within their region.
Manage and maintain accurate stores ledgers for all communications equipment held within their region.
Identify future requirements and plan ahead accordingly.
Back load and infill of new and faulty equipment from suppliers as well as established sources.
Actively drive new equipment introductions and projects within their region in consultation with the Communications Officer in Kabul and regional FCO staff.
Liaison with Government, Military, Police and local agencies and FCO technical support staff within Afghanistan and the UK.

The Ideal Candidate:
To be considered for this role candidate’s CV’s MUST be able to demonstrate the following:
At least 7 years exemplary military service record as a NCO.
Minimum of 2 years recent experience of operating in Afghanistan.
Experience of working in hostile environments.
Experience in the training of multinational personnel.
Experience of operating on radio networks and possess a high degree of technical competence in communications.
Experience in HF, VHF, Satellite, GPS and Transponder communication systems.
Experience/Working knowledge of ECM.
High standard of education.
Preferably hold at least BTEC Diploma or Level 3 in telecommunications.
IT literate.
Rigging qualifications would be a bonus.
