Job Summary
The Non-Rated Crewmember (NRCM), RW, UH-1H (II), Crew Chief (CE) / Gunner (GR) transports Cargo and Passengers to include other missions (Command and Control, Movement of Quick Reaction Forces and other Security Forces, Armed Escort) as directed by the Senior Aviation Advisor (SSA) or Aviation Operations Director (AOD). Performs as a crewmember on UH-1H (II) helicopters in support of the U.S. Department of State (DoS), under oversight from the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office of Aviation (INL/A) primarily in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Potential for exposure to hostile fire in this region is high.

Principal Accountabilities
Performs duties as a Crew Chief / Gunner on UH-1H (II) aircraft in support of the US Embassy, Afghanistan
These missions are accomplished during day and night, while wearing Night Vision Goggles (NVG)
Applicant will be required to maintain NVG currency
Performs preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections as well as scheduled or unscheduled maintenance
Provides technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies and malfunctions
Performs and / or assists with aircrew briefings and debriefings
Participates in Maintenance Test Flights as a crew member or Technical Observer (OR), as required
Able to operate and maintain the M-4, M-9, M240 and GAU-17 / M134 Mini Gun
Maintains Maintenance forms / historical records and ensures they are accurate, up to date, and complete
Ensures the cargo compartment is properly configured for each mission, and that cargo is properly restrained
Supervise and participate in loading / unloading operations
Performs aircraft servicing, inspection, and maintenance duties including fueling operations and aircraft configuration changes as required
Ensures aircraft records are maintained, and records all discrepancies noted before, during and after flight
The applicant may be assigned duties as Crew Chief or Gunner
Performs other duties as assigned


Knowledge & Skills
Branch 15 Aviation MOS (15TK1 or 15UK1), USAF AFSC 1A1X1 / 1A7X1 or USMC MOS 6174 or military / commercial equivalent highly desired

Qualifications in assigned aircraft before or incident to assignment
Must successfully complete weapons qualification (M-4, M-9, M240, and GAU-17 / M134 Mini Gun), security training, psychological profiling and High Threat Survival Escape and Evasion training prior to deployment
Possess a current US Passport or the ability to obtain one before assignment
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance is a condition of employment
An active DoD Secret security clearance is preferred


Experience & Education
750 total rotary wing flight hours
Applicant must be Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and have 250 hours of NVG experience
An FAA A&P Certificate is required along with a current FAA Class III Medical Certificate
Applicant must have 3 years’ experience in the maintenance and support of the following weapons: M-4, M-9, M-240, and GAU-17 / M134 Mini Gun
CE / GR with combat experience and previous exposure to operations in Afghanistan / Iraq is desired
High School Diploma or equivalent is required

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
The applicant must not have physical restrictions or existing medical conditions that would prevent them from working in remote locations with limited medical care
Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for up to twelve (12) hours per day and sit for up to eight (8) hours per day
Must be able to perform non-rated crewmember duties during mission operations
Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth
Must be able to routinely climb/descend stairs
Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print, maps and aeronautical charts
Must be able to crouch, crawl, routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders
Must be able to see aircraft in flight, read dials / gauges, and identify small objects and hand tools
Must be physically capable of climbing vertical ladders or built-in aircraft steps
May be required to lift up to 50 pounds to a height of four (4) feet and be required to lift up to 20 pounds to a height of seven (7) feet
Must have no physical limitations that may prevent the wearing of a flight helmet, body armor, or other equipment required for this position
Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments
May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft
May be exposed to fumes, gas, airborne particles, chemical mist, vapors, ultra-violet and infrared radiation
May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles or aircraft

Travel Travel to and between CONUS and OCONUS locations as requested is required
