Job Summary
The
Flight Medic Trainer is responsible for managing and supervising all
training and educational activities of the MEDEVAC Program. The
MED-Trainer will act as the liaison between the TOC, Ground Team and
Medical Facilities. They will provide the required information flow for
proper program management. The MED-Trainer is responsible for managing
and supervising all training and educational activities of the MEDEVAC
Program. In addition the MED-Trainer will be required to fly Medevac
missions and to maintain personal certifications.
Principal Accountabilities
Develop local Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Flight Medic Operations
Develops training programs to ensure that the best qualified personnel are available for missions
Assists in the development of plans and standard operating procedures to support the MEDEVAC program.
Develops training programs to ensure that the best qualified personnel are available for missions
Maintain records of medical certifications to determine the status of personnel available for missions
Coordinate disaster preparedness evaluations, training missions, and exercises
Responsible
for the implementation of the medical action plans specified by the
Medical Director Ensures any new, changes and/or updates to SOPs,
policies, procedures, forms and techniques are created/updated and
disseminated to all locations and medics
Coordinates and supervises activities for continuing education utilizing appropriate Clinical Practice Guidelines and Protocols
Foster trust, cooperation and communication in order to improve patient care, safety and mission success
Responsible for quality assurance and quality improvement programs and initiatives for process improvement
Determines operational and logistical needs
Ensures that all personnel are kept informed of status changes
Maintains and distributes pertinent reports
Manages
medical training activities of the organizational flight medics to
ensure effective efficiencies in compliance with medical protocols and
legal requirements
Develops training POIs
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Must have extensive personnel management and instructor skills
Have an in-depth knowledge of life-saving Medical procedures
Have
knowledge of advanced cardiology, to include operation of Defibrillator
equipment, accurate reading and diagnosis of cardiac strips, and ACLS
algorithms with appropriate drug treatment protocol
Fundamental knowledge of basic communications procedures and equipment
Be
knowledgeable of Advanced Trauma Care, to include immediate assessment
and treatment of any traumatic life threatening injury, advanced airway
management (Intubations, Surgical Cricothyrotomy), advanced invasive
procedures (Needle Decompression, Chest Tube Thoracotomy), advanced
Circulatory support
Have knowledge of general sick call procedures
National
EMT-P Certification required. Certification must be current with all
applicable education/recertification requirements completed
Possess a FAA Class III Medical Certificate
Working within foreign countries that entailed working in a high threat environment is expected
Must demonstrate proficiency with required weapons system and safe weapons handling procedures
Have a working knowledge of FOL sanitary requirements to maintain a healthy working environment
Have knowledge of body recovery procedures
Emergency
Medical Technicians- Paramedic (NREMT-P) with qualification as Flight
Paramedic preferredCritical Care Paramedic Certified
Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified
Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS or ITLS), or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certified
Have a general knowledge of radiological (basic) analysis
Have knowledge of material inventory principles
Inventory management skill is required
All employees must receive immunizations appropriate to the theater of operations prior to employment
Possess a current US Passport or the ability to obtain one before assignment
Must
possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of
Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance is a condition of continued
employment; an active DoD Secret Security Clearance is preferred
Experience & Education
Has a minimum Five (5) to Seven (7) years’ experience in the medical field as a Critical Care Paramedic
Minimum one (1) year in a Training Medic position
Extensive
experience required in dealing with lifesaving procedures with an
emphasis on Tactical Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine as an
Advanced Tactical Practitioner
Extensive experience conducting routine and emergency lifesaving treatment in an austere environment is required
Extensive experience in providing unsupported lifesaving care to a patient for up to 48 hours is desired
Exposure to Flight Medical operations in a high-threat environment is desired
Extensive
experience desired in the following areas: working with established
medical systems, medical planning, operations and intelligence
Experience in conducting base camp health/hygiene surveys is required
Experience in conducting hospital medical surveys in developing countries/regions is required
Extensive experience in assessing OCONUS regional/local medical treatment capability is required
Experience in developing/implementing MEDEVAC plans and procedures are required
Extensive
experience as a trainer/instructor of medical-related topics is
required. Exposure to Search & Rescue operations in a high-threat
environment is desired
High school diploma or equivalent is
required. Associate’s degree majoring in trauma management, first
responder procedures, combat medicine or other related area of study is
preferred
Must attend and successfully complete weapons
qualification, security training, psychological profiling and High
Threat - Survival Escape and Evasion training prior to deployment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must
be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to eight
(8) hours per day and sit for up to three (3) hours per day
Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs
Employee must be able to lift and carry 12O pounds 100 meters
Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders
Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print
Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depths
Employee
will be required to work and live in a potentially hostile environment,
at remote locations, and under austere conditions
Employee may be
required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances,
under extreme weather conditions, within a hostile environment
The
individual may be exposed to extreme noise from aircraft, hostile fire,
and other acts of aggression associated with this region
Individuals
may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and work in close
proximity to moving mechanical parts, aircraft, and vehicles
Travel
Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments.
