Responsibilities include:
•Working from specifications, blueprints, sketches, drawings, patterns and verbal instructions•Selecting, cuts, turns, shapes, joins, bonds, fits and assembles wooden materials and parts using full range of hand and power woodworking machines and techniques. •Applying covering such as Formica and linoleum with proper adhesives to counter and tabletops. •Pre-cutting thin transparent thermoplastics flat stock to work order dimensions. •Planning and lays out work, interprets and checks blueprints, plans and sketches; visualizes items; checks and verifies all measurements, parts, etc; makes templates and patterns; select appropriate machines, tools and techniques; plans sequence of work; and makes, assembles and accomplishes complete projects.•Developing curved, contoured and shaped surfaces and features; matches panels, grains, contours and complex joints; laminates veneers and overlays. •Working with a large variety of hardwoods, softwoods, plywood, veneers, wood substitutes, gluing and bonding agents. •Determining requirements of characteristics, porosity, luster, warp tendency, strength, durability, resistance to water and chemicals all materials. Machines and hand sands to desired smoothness and finish. (40% of respective work function)•Constructing boxes, crates, doors and door frames, windows and window frames, pallets and engine stands, grilles, sashes, louvers, drawers, wardrobes, cabinets, screen doors, steps, loading docks, loading ramps, window screens, arms racks, etc. •Making all types of construction moldings and trim. •Performing all types of construction and fabrication of millwork including pre-cutting, sanding, mortising and tensioning, tongue and groove, cutting stops, jacks, etc. •Prefabricating small buildings such as storehouses, sheds, etc., in the shop. •Operating 2,000 to 20,000 pound capacity forklift and 1/2-ton pick-up trucks. (30% of respective work function)•Repairing a variety of common metal office furniture and equipment, to include, but not limited to desks, chairs and filing cabinets. •Disassembling worn or damaged items. •Replacing rollers, latches and hinges. •Removing damaged desk and tabletops. •Measuring cuts and installs replacement tops, to include those made of Formica. Straightens bent or crooked arms and legs. •Refinishing hardwood tabletops. •Operating spray paint equipment to paint repaired items. •Welding cracks. (30% of respective work function)
Requires technical knowledge and skills in the proper set-up and operation of all types of manual and power operated tools such as cut-off saws, band saws, table top saws, jig saws, skill saws, planer, jointer, shaper, router, power sander, portable power drills and a variety of hand tools. •Operates equipment in such a manner as to preclude equipment damages and excessive material wastes, achieve critical cutting tolerances and to avoid possible injury to self or others•Requires knowledge of the various classes of lumber and their woodworking properties.•Requires knowledge of Formica, linoleum, thermoplastics and other similar materials.•Ability to select proper materials for the specific task required. •Requires ability to plan, layout and determine grooves, joints, dovetails and contoured features of special purpose cabinetry and decorative woodwork.•Ability to utilize blueprints, specifications, schematics, shop mathematics, patterns, jigs, special fixtures and a variety of rules, tapes, squares, miter and angle gauges.•Ability to fabricate a variety of wooden utility boxes, buildings, steps, etc. •Ability to determine extent of damage and techniques for repair of metal office furniture and equipment. Ability to operate wire-fed welding equipment and painting equipment. Ability to safely operate forklift and motor vehicle equipment.•Able to work indoors in a shop environment with the infrequent requirement of work out-of-doors, subject to inclement weather conditions.•Able to work in an environment that is subject to head and presents frequent exposure to high noise levels, eye and foot safety hazards. •Required to use hearing protective devices, protective eyewear and safety shoes while working with or near operating woodworking machines during all times of actual hazardous conditions exposure.EODT is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
