Position Summary:
Functions a part of a firefighting team member of an assigned aircraft or structural firefighting crew on an alternating 48-hour shifts. Maintains firefighting and general purpose emergency response vehicles, equipment, tools and protective clothing in a serviceable ready-response condition. Responds to emergencies as required, suppresses fire, and takes precautions to prevent rekindling. Performs all assigned tasks in fire ground situations as well as routine and daily care and operator level maintenance of firefighting apparatus and equipment within Afghanistan as defined in the current task order, Performance Work Standard (PWS), and as directed by Vectrus. Responsible for performing all fire protection services related functional standards within their assigned department IAW the Statement of Work. Implements the Fire Chief’s comprehensive firefighting program at the assigned installation to ensure compliance with AR 420-1, Army Facilities Management, Chapter 25, Fire and Emergency Services, Local work instructions, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Guidelines.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Reports to the Assistant Chief of Operations and functions under the direct supervision of assigned Firefighter Crew Chief.
Performs as a member of a structural and/or aircraft firefighting crew at assigned fire department to ensure compliance with PWS and all local requirements are met.
Performs daily preventive maintenance for assigned firefighting vehicles and equipment to ensure constant operational readiness.
Dependent upon staffing, may be assigned to either a Firefighter or Driver Operator position. Drive and operate emergency response vehicles (ARFF, Pumpers or MWS) to scene of fire following predetermined routes, or alternate routes when necessary. Perform pumping operations to supply firefighting crews with extinguishing agent.
Performs the work assigned by supervisors who assist in carrying out program activities. Ensure timely submittal of work product reports pertaining to the operations section, as required. Ensure completion of scheduled and required fire protection equipment inspections to comply and meet PWS requirements for the department.
Prevents loss of life and minimizes damage to property and the environment from fire by performing fire attack, confinement, salvage, overhaul, ventilation and rescue activities, to include performing emergency medical care and CPR. Protects and preserves evidence at a fire scene.
Performs tasks and procedures as directed by senior fire officer; station logs and other records pertinent to reports, activities, drills, equipment inspections, etc., are maintained properly and submitted within time limits, if required.
Maintains current knowledge of the base, its structures, and all systems related to fire protection.
Ensures assigned firefighting duties are accomplished and documented as outlined in the PWS and department work instructions. When aircraft/facility pre-fire plans are outdated, assist with development and provide updates. Performs required operators maintenance and tests on rescue tools and saws, ground ladders, fire hose, ropes, harnesses and hardware; serviceable inspections of firefighters’ protective firefighting clothing; and complies with mandated standards for a respiratory protection program for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Participates in career and proficiency training programs designed to increase technical proficiency. When necessary, provide and conducts scheduled training as prescribed by the Fire Chief’s Annual Training Plan and as scheduled by the Assistant Fire Chief.
Implements tasks as directed by the Firefighter Crew Chief to minimize loss or damage from fires or explosions. Follows directions by the senior fire officer for the placement of firefighting equipment and personnel to ensure maximum utilization in fire control of aircraft crash/rescue operations.
As a member of an assigned firefighting crew provide safe and proper rescue operations of endangered persons. Performs rescue operations in accordance with established policies and procedures and minimize the risk of additional danger to firefighting personnel and endangered persons. Employs firefighting tactics to minimize the loss or damage as a result of fire or explosions. Responds to hazardous material incidents; performs operations level actions, as directed by the Assistant Fire Chief, to establish control of the affected area with minimal risk to response personnel and the environment.
As required and/or assigned, performs fire alarm communication center operations. Ensures all firefighting equipment and personnel are dispatched as required. When assigned, ensures that the communications center remains manned at all times during the shift. Performs operational checks of communications equipment at the beginning of the shift. Maintains constant contact with senior fire officer and firefighting crews during real world emergencies or fire drills.
Maintains fire station facilities.
Performs other duties and assignments as required or as directed by the Firefighter Crew Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, or Fire Chief.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Some positions/locations could involve working in a potentially dangerous environment. Activities will generally be conducted in varying indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions. Duties will involve potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions including extreme ambient temperatures.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Must be able to meet and maintain physical fitness requirements defined by the Government Program Office. Must be in good physical condition; possess agility and strength to hoist, lift and carry 100 pounds or more. Mandatory wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE: Kevlar helmet, body armor, etc).Work related activities may require use of Personal Protective Equipment including but not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Compliance required with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and Company work policies.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
High School diploma or equivalent. Must possess current DoD (IFSAC/PROBOARD) certifications for: Rescue Technician I, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Fire Fighter, Hazardous Materials - Operations, Driver/Operator ARFF, Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply, and Driver/Operator Pumper. Must possess current CPR and First Aid First Responder certification.
Experience:
Five+ (5) years of related firefighting experience in the US Military, DOD, or civilian.
Skills:
Good oral and written communication skills
Must pass annual NFPA 1582 physical exam, federal background check and possess a current, valid U.S. passport.
Proficient computer skills
Knowledge of fire protection mission and organization; fire safety requirements and objectives; firefighting and rescue procedures and techniques, firefighter training requirements, firefighting apparatus and equipment, alarm and suppression system operation; water supply systems; hazardous materials is mandatory.
