Job Summary
The Air Traffic Controller (ATC) Supervisor is responsible for supervising an ATC facility, providing leadership and direction within that facility.Principal Accountabilities
Supervise the work and duty schedule of subordinates, ensure operational readiness of facility equipment and associated NAVAIDs, and ensure ATC facility operates according to applicable military, FAA, and ICAO rules and regulations
Develop and maintain facility training program, training manual, and current file of pertinent regulations, manuals, charts, maps, and training material
Ensure all controllers meet physical standards as defined in directives and maintain currency in training
Ensure all reporting requirements are met and accurate for the facility, that local directives and operating procedures are followed, and maintain custodial control of facility forms, records, publications, and their related distribution
Conduct testing and practical evaluation for position qualification or rating of trainee controllers
Administer written exams and conduct skill evaluations for professional controllers
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Familiar with standard air traffic control and aviation concepts, practices, and procedures of FAA, ICAO, and the military
Excellent verbal communications skills
Working knowledge of aviation flight planning and Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) systems
Knowledge of operating ground-to-air communication equipment
Knowledge of Army Flight Following System
Experience & Education
Minimum five (5) years of experience in operational FAA or DOD air traffic control with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role
Bachelor Degree preferred
Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) certificate
Prefer FAA Control Tower Operation Certificate or CTO Certificate of Grades
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must be able to lift and/or carry at least 30 pounds
Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel: Ability to travel domestically and internationally
