The English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor will plan and conduct classroom instruction of ESL/EFL, evaluate student performance, advise on the placement and training needs of students, adapt and develop instructional materials, and make professional recommendations for improvement of curriculum design, training materials, student administration and training program management.
Essential Duties :
Upon hire, attend a three-week pre-service training course at the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) in San Antonio, TX. Upon completion, the PM will move to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for a period of up to three years.
Develop weekly lesson plans.
Conduct classes applying sound ESL/EFL methodology.
Conduct and monitor IMI laboratory sessions (computer and multimedia).
Maintain a neat and orderly classroom, office, and laboratory.
Annotate and close out student academic records weekly.
Annotate student attendance record at the beginning of each class period.
Assist the Test Control Officer (TCO) in conducting book quizzes.
Assist the TCO in monitoring weekly and/or monthly ECL tests.
Upon receipt of ECL test scores, annotate student academic records with the test number, date, and results. Counsel students if necessary.
Provide results of all tests to the students
Conduct student counseling sessions for failures to achieve the book objectives, for lack of ECL growth, and for lack of motivation or discipline.
Forward a copy of ECL test scores within 2 working days of test completion.
Minimum Job Requirements :
Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)/English as a Foreign Language (EFL)/English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)/Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)/(Applied), and more than one year experience in teaching ESL/EFL to adults, or
Bachelors degree in ESL/ESOL/TESL/TEFL/TESOL/(Applied) Linguistics/English/Foreign Languages, and more than five years of professional experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults, or
Any undergraduate degree and 24 semester hours (or equivalent) of undergraduate courses equivalent to a major in ESL/ESOL/TESL/TEFL/TESOL/(Applied) Linguistics/English/Foreign Languages, and more than five years of professional experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults.
Native speaker of American English.
Possess a great deal of tact, discretion, and diplomacy, and maintain the personality, appearance, and general bearing that reflects credit upon the U.S. Government.
Able and willing to abide by all restrictions and limitations of the host country, and remain neutral on the subject of religion and politics.
Preferred
Five (5) years of experience with DLIELC course materials.
Administration
The ESL Instructor will receive one rest and recuperation leave trip to their home residence each 12-month period.
